This resource has been designed for students working towards Entry Level 3 Functional Skills English certification (Edexcel-Pearson, NCFE, City and Guilds, NOCN and Open Awards). It contains an age-appropriate, 34-page workbook with 20 speaking and listening tasks on the Entry Level 3 speaking and listening component. The workbook will help students to achieve these outcomes:

identify and extract relevant information and detail in straightforward explanations
make requests and ask questions using appropriate language in different contexts
communicate information and opinions clearly on a range of topics
respond appropriately to questions on a range of topics

I bought these clear, well-structured resources for use in my Nurture classroom in a mainstream secondary school. Each booklet clearly aligns with the Functional Skills objectives and allows for independent work. The tasks in the booklets are chunked and scaffolded with visuals, which has been particularly helpful in reducing cognitive overload for my SEN and EAL students. I have also found these booklets to be very versatile: I have used them during whole-class teaching, where they have enabled multiple pupils to work at different levels; as a homework task; and for sending home during periods of absence. I would definitely recommend these booklets.
