L8 – Holy War

This lesson explores the concept of Holy War in Christianity and Islam, focusing on when (if ever) war may be considered justified. Students examine Christian Just War theory and the Islamic concept of lesser jihad, using key religious teachings and quotes to understand the strict conditions placed on warfare.

Through accessible reading tasks, comparison activities and structured questions, students develop their ability to compare religious viewpoints, analyse sources of authority, and consider whether religion encourages or limits violence. The lesson supports GCSE exam skills while remaining inclusive and suitable for mixed-ability learners.

This SOW is accompanied by a booklet.
