This writing prompt leads student through the features which will help them to achieve descriptive writing at a deeper level. It is based on the novel ‘Coraline’ by Neil Gaiman, and included sections for the setting, build up, dialogue and the ‘other mother’ character description.
For each section, the feature needed to enhance the writing is given, followed by an example. There is then space for them to adapt/innovate their own idea.
It worked exceptionally well in my Y6 class, and the writing produced was amazing.
