**A ready-to-teach Year 6 maths lesson focused on solving area and perimeter reasoning problems involving missing lengths, shaded areas and compound shapes.

This lesson develops pupils’ understanding of area and perimeter through multi-step geometry problems in a range of contexts.**

This Year 6 maths lesson develops pupils’ reasoning skills through a range of challenging area and perimeter problems.

Pupils solve problems involving missing lengths, calculate the area of component shapes, determine shaded areas and apply their understanding of area and perimeter to unfamiliar situations. The lesson also includes questions involving regular polygons, rectangles made from identical squares and inverse problems linking area and perimeter.

Rather than practising straightforward calculations, pupils explain relationships between dimensions and apply known formulae to solve multi-step geometry problems.

Teachers can use the included Smart Notebook input slides to model strategies clearly before pupils complete a differentiated independent activity.

This resource is ideal for Year 6 geometry lessons, KS2 reasoning practice, SATS revision and targeted intervention.
