Year 5 Catholic RE lesson plans for Branch 1: Creation and Covenant, containing seven sequenced 800-minute lessons. Explore Moses, the Ten Commandments, Jesus’ Great Commandment, covenant, sin, forgiveness and virtues through practical, classroom-ready activities.

This complete Year 5 RE unit supports pupils aged 9–10 to develop knowledge and understanding of covenant relationships with God, Christian moral teaching and the call to live virtuously. Each lesson can be taught as an 80-minute session or divided into two 40-minute lessons.

Curriculum and classroom use

Designed for Year 5 pupils aged 9–10 in Upper Key Stage 2, this Catholic RE unit is part of Discerning Disciples and supports the Birmingham Archdiocese RE Curriculum.

Pupils explore how God calls people into relationship through covenant, focusing on Noah, Abraham and Moses. They learn about the Ten Commandments and Jesus’ Great Commandment, consider the meaning and consequences of sin, encounter the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and reflect on how virtues such as honesty, respect and compassion help Christians grow in goodness.
