A complete Year 3/4 maths enterprise project where pupils plan a mini business with a £10 budget. Full lesson plan, two differentiated worksheets, price list and certificate included.
This £10 Mini Business Challenge is a fully resourced, ready-to-teach maths and enterprise lesson for Year 3 and Year 4 (ages 7-9). Pupils work in pairs to invent a small business, plan their costs within a £10 budget, decide a selling price and calculate their predicted profit. The lesson culminates in pairs pitching to an AI “judge” (a copy-paste prompt is included for Claude or ChatGPT) who scores their maths, creativity and realism.
What’s included (5 editable Word .docx files):

Teacher’s lesson plan with timings, learning objectives, differentiation for SEND/EAL/stretch, assessment guidance and an AI judge prompt
Worksheet A - scaffolded version with a £10 wallet, part-filled cost table and sentence-starter profit calculator
Worksheet B - open-ended stretch version with five extension challenges and a self-check rubric
Picture-supported price list with 25+ items grouped by category (drinks & snacks, crafts, garden, games)
Printable winners’ certificate (landscape, decorative)

Curriculum links: Year 3/4 maths - money (pounds and pence), addition and subtraction within £100, multiplication using 2, 5 and 10 times tables, reasoning and problem-solving. Cross-curricular links to PSHE (enterprise, teamwork) and oracy (pitching).
How to use: Designed as a 30-minute lesson but easily extended to 60 minutes or a two-session unit. Works well as a half-term wrap-up, an enterprise week activity, or a Friday afternoon problem-solving task.
All files are fully editable in Microsoft Word (.docx).
