About the resource
This reusable resource is designed to consolidate understanding of the terms
‘noun’ and ‘adjective’ and support the building of noun phrases. The activity will encourage students to think deeply about word choices and to use ambitious vocabulary. The activity is suitable for Year 1 and 2. It can also be used as a revision tool or as a creative writing support for KS2. As it is laminated, students can edit and refine their word choices.

How to use
• The Adjective Explorer resource needs to be printed out and laminated.
• Each slide has six focus nouns in the first column of the grid. Students use
whiteboard pens to generate five adjectives for each noun.

• Extension ideas:
✓ Use the completed adjective explorer grid to build expanded noun phrases
✓ Use the grid alongside a thesaurus, to upgrade adjectives to more powerful
synonyms
✓ Use the blank adjective grid as a tool to create a word bank of adjectives in preparation for creative writing
