World Cup 2026 English football themed assessment planning lesson for AQA English Language Paper 1 Q5/creative writing/Section B/narrative writing. Can easily be adaptable for other exam boards (Eduqas, WJEC, OCR, etc) that prepares students to write an assessment piece based on the opening of a story about a football game (AO5/AO6).

Students write out their own lists of success criteria based on previous learning, and then explore the mark scheme and indicative content to consolidate their understanding of how to improve their drafts that they wrote in previous lessons.

They are then given a detailed checklist to support them in writing out their final assessment pieces.

Students reflect on their learning for reflection sheets at the end of the session.

The unit will then move on to focusing on spelling, punctuation, grammar and other areas of AO6.
