How to use this pack. The ‘-able / -ible’ rule is one of the trickiest in the Years 5 and 6 spelling curriculum — and one of the most commonly tested. Start with the rules page, then work through the sheets in order. Finish with the practice test and the look-cover-write-check grid.

The rules at a glance:

1. Use -able when the root is a complete word: enjoy → enjoyable, comfort → comfortable.
2. Use -able if the word has a related ‘-ation’ form: adore → adoration → adorable; apply →
   application → applicable.
3. Keep the e after a soft c or g: noticeable, changeable, manageable.
4. Use -ible when the root is not a complete word: possible, terrible, visible, incredible. (Watch out
   for exceptions like sensible and responsible!)
