  • Pupils know Walter and his brother Edward went to a children’s home in London after their parents died
  • Pupils know Walter played football for Tottenham Hotspur (1909-1911) and then Northampton Town (1911-1914)
  • Pupils know Walter joined the 17th (1st Football) Battalion of the Middlesex Regiment in December 1914
  • Pupils know Walter was made an officer in May 1917 - the first mixed-heritage British Army officer to lead white troops
  • Pupils know Walter was killed on 25 March 1918 at the Second Battle of Bapaume in France
