A complete, no-prep 100-mark worksheet on the hydrological cycle — ready to use for lessons, homework, or revision with KS3 Geography students aged 11-14. Three progressive sections take students from knowledge recall through to extended geographical analysis.

The hydrological cycle is the continuous movement of water between the ocean, land, rivers, and atmosphere. This worksheet covers both the global cycle — including water stores and transfers — and the local drainage basin cycle, with all key processes from interception to groundwater flow.

Section 1 — Knowledge Recall (30 marks) — includes six multiple-choice questions, a true/false table of eight statements, and a fill-in-the-blank activity covering the six key local processes. Section 2 — Application and Understanding (40 marks) — includes a definitions table for four key terms, a stores-and-transfers sorting activity with ten terms, two short-answer questions on the role of the sun and gravity and the journey of a water droplet, and an extended question on freshwater availability. Section 3 — Extension and Analysis (30 marks) — includes two extended essays on vegetation and flooding and the global versus local cycle, plus a data-led case study on a hillside town experiencing increasing flood risk. A full answer key with detailed mark schemes and banded marking guidance for all extended writing questions is included.
