Four ready-to-use enrichment activities on the hydrological cycle for KS3 Geography students — no preparation required. Designed to stretch and challenge students who want to go beyond the main worksheet, with varied activity types and deeper geographical thinking.

The hydrological cycle describes the continuous movement of water between the ocean, land, rivers, and atmosphere. These extension activities develop vocabulary, data skills, case study analysis, and communication — all rooted in the processes of the drainage basin and global water cycle.
Each activity targets higher-order thinking: a 14-term vocabulary matching exercise covering all key processes from evaporation and condensation through to throughflow, percolation, and groundwater flow; a 25-mark challenge quiz including a water stores data table, a process-sequencing task, and a “do you agree?” extended question on deforestation and flooding; a 21-mark Somerset Levels floods case study (2013-14) with seven analysis questions requiring students to apply drainage basin processes to a real UK flooding event; and a creative Teach It Back task where students write a simple guide to the water cycle for a Year 5 audience, assessed with a provided five-criterion rubric. Full answer keys and marking guidance are included for all activities.

Pairs with the main 100-mark KS3 Geography worksheet on this topic, also on TES. Buy both together as a complete lesson bundle and save £1.
