Driving question: Why did the Romans change Britain forever?

What’s included

  • 6 x Projectable slide decks (PowerPoint, ~22 slides each)
  • 6 x Exit quizzes (single-page printable, with answer key)
  • 1 x Knowledge Organiser (Word, 2-page A4 landscape)
  • 1 x End-of-unit assessment with baseline + mark scheme
  • 50+ original illustrations included throughout
  • Curated kid-appropriate YouTube videos linked from each lesson’s slide deck

Curriculum links

  • UK National Curriculum - KS2 History: The Roman Empire and its impact on Britain
  • the Roman Empire by AD 42 and the power of its army
  • successful invasion by Claudius and conquest, including Hadrian’s Wall
  • British resistance, for example, Boudica
  • ‘Romanisation’ of Britain: sites such as Caerwent and the impact of technology, culture and beliefs

What pupils will learn

  • Pupils know the Roman Empire invaded Britain in AD 43 under Emperor Claudius and ruled for nearly 400 years
  • Pupils know Boudica led a revolt against Roman rule and what happened to her tribe, the Iceni
  • Pupils know the Romans built roads, towns and Hadrian’s Wall, and that many of these still shape Britain today
  • Pupils can name at least three lasting Roman contributions to modern Britain (roads, towns, language, Christianity)

What pupils will be able to do

  • Pupils can use primary sources (coins, writing tablets, ruins) to answer historical questions
  • Pupils can place key Roman events on a timeline spanning AD 43 to AD 410
  • Pupils can explain cause and consequence using because, so, therefore

Every lesson is 100% no-prep with a retrieval starter, key vocabulary, modelled examples, differentiated practice (Support / Core / Stretch) and an exit quiz with answers - ideal for supply cover, homework or whole-class teaching. National Curriculum aligned. Verdana / Calibri, A4, prints cleanly on any school PC.
