  • Pupils know about JULIUS CAESAR - his conquest of Gaul, crossing the Rubicon (49 BC), dictatorship, and assassination (44 BC)
  • Pupils know that AUGUSTUS became the first Emperor in 27 BC, beginning 200 years of PAX ROMANA
  • Pupils know about daily life in Rome - apartments, forums, public baths, gladiators in the Colosseum (built AD 80)
  • Pupils know about POMPEII - buried by Mount Vesuvius in AD 79, preserved almost intact
  • Pupils know that the Western Roman Empire fell in AD 476 - but Rome’s legacy (language, law, alphabet, calendar, architecture) is still with us
