The digestive system is a collection of organs that break food into nutrients small enough to be absorbed into the blood. Digestion allows the body to extract the energy and materials it needs for daily life, growth, and repair.

The worksheet contains three questions totalling 13 marks: a multiple choice question testing understanding of what digestion does (2 marks); a fill-in-the-blank exercise completing sentences about the order food travels through the organs of the digestive system, using a word box (5 marks); and a short-answer question asking students to explain why the body needs food and why it must be broken down before the body can use it (6 marks).
