Final writing outcome

A dark-comic narrative chapter in the style of Jack Meggitt-Phillips, in which Ebenezer Tweezer faces the consequences of feeding the Beast and discovers an unexpected affection for Bethany. Pupils craft 1-2 pages of gothic-comic prose using fronted adverbials for timing, dialogue between two contrasting characters laid out with new lines per speaker, expanded noun phrases for grotesque-funny detail and possessive apostrophes for plural nouns.

Grammar features (Year 4 NC-aligned)
  • Fronted adverbials with a comma (Year 4 NC).
  • Inverted commas and other punctuation to indicate direct speech, including new lines for new speakers (Year 4 NC).
Themes explored

Vanity and consequence, The unlikely family, Redemption through unexpected affection, Comic horror and the absurd.

Key vocabulary
