This resource contains two complete lessons on safeguarding, mental capacity, communication, advocacy and escalation for the T Level Health – Adult Nursing Occupational Specialism, providing approximately 8–10 hours of teaching.

Lesson 1 – Recognising Abuse and Responding Safely
Students explore safeguarding responsibilities, the signs and indicators of different types of abuse and neglect, the six safeguarding principles and key legislation, including the Care Act 2014. Through realistic scenarios, they learn how to respond safely to disclosures, avoid investigating concerns, record factual information, report concerns through the correct channels and escalate when action is not taken.

They also examine decision-specific and fluctuating capacity, communication adaptations, best-interests decisions, advocacy, IMCA and IMHA support, and how to balance individual choice, safety, risk and duty of care.
