This is a set of five lessons with the necessary visual material and resources for children to write and perform a poem.

It is connected with our book** Vlad and the Stone Age** which is about the archaeological finds in Star Carr. The story links beliefs and Mesolithic artefacts that suggest the importance of deer to Stone Age people. Using the illustrations of wild deer, ancient Ice Age carvings (from Creswell Crags), mythical imagery and the deer masks found at Star Carr children will gather a wide range of vocabulary to help discuss and write about the Stone Age.

The lessons scaffold the writing around William Blake’s poem The Tyger, which is used to look at rhyme and rhythm.
