Edexcel IGCSE Still I Rise Maya Angelou English Language Paper 2 one hour lesson for Poetry and Prose Texts, but could be used for any other exam specification or preparation for unseen poetry.

We explore the key language and structure features in Angelou’s poem, explaining how she conveys ideas and perspectives about dignity, oppression and defiance, as well as how his use of language and structure impacts on the reader’s thoughts and feelings. Together we make detailed analytical notes on how the poet creates effects and is able to affect the reader.

Additionally, we explore some of the key context around the poem which is useful for helping a student’s understanding of the poem’s themes, ideas and perspectives.
