This PPT is where I began my Digital Technologies unit in earnest (once everyone was back from TAFE).

Learning Intentions

  • Explore the pros and cons of social media (and its influences on our lives)
  • Identify which social media platforms you are familiar with
  • Look at a range of social media platforms and what they are used for

Checking for prior knowledge (discussion questions)

Students copy key terms (underlined text)

  • The internet
  • Social media
  • Social media platform

Social media and young people

  • Why did the Australian Government introduce legislation to prevent under 16s from accessing a range of social media platforms?
  • How did the government justify this ban?
  • What platforms have not been banned?

Viewing activity: Why everyone is quitting social media [16mins]

Fast finishers. Choose a video to watch from YouTube showing people who have made producing content their livelihood e.g. The Try Guys.

Resources designed for the new senior Social and Community Studies syllabus (implemented in QLD in 2024). Topic: Digital Citizenship. The end of term assessment for this unit was a product (Information Booklet / Pamphlet / Brochure).

The content would also be useful more broadly for students in other states and countries with an interest in online safety. Additional resources for this unit are also available in my store – Aussie_Resources.
