Sharing in a Given Ratio — GCSE Foundation · Ratio & proportion · Year 10.

Share an amount in a ratio by finding total parts, then the value of one part — the habit that trips pupils is dividing the whole amount by each ratio number separately.

Exam board alignment: Covers Foundation ratio skills across major GCSE specifications. Content is spec-neutral unless noted.

What’s included
  • 4-page student worksheet (print-ready PDF)
  • 2-page teacher answer key with full worked solutions and section-by-section notes
  • Do Now — quick arithmetic warm-up (division prep)
  • Retrieval — 1 : n form, simplifying, and counting parts from Lessons 1–2
  • The Big Idea — total parts · one-part value · multiply each ratio number
  • I Do / We Do — share £60 in 2 : 3, £45 in 4 : 5, £80 in 3 : 5, 96 in 5 : 7
  • Spot the Mistake — Sam divides £40 by 3 and by 5 instead of finding 8 parts
  • You Do — Section A (two-way and three-way) · Section B (four scenario cards)
  • Going Deeper — decimal shares · find the total from one share
  • Exit ticket + self-assessment checkboxes

Lessons with teacher commentary, not just answers — diagnostic notes on the misconception and marking guidance.
