The aim of this lesson is to assess the devastating political and economic impact of the 1923 Ruhr Crisis and the subsequent military invasion upon Weimar Germany.

Students begin by recapping the baseline economic crisis, focusing on Germany’s inability to pay war reparations and its urgent request to suspend payments to stabilise the failing mark.

They learn in depth about the exact payment mechanisms required by the Allies, analysing how an already fragile economic situation was made significantly worse by the harsh actions of France and Belgium.

Students answer a series of targeted analytical questions to predict how the Weimar government and ordinary citizens reacted to the occupation by French and Belgian troops.

The lesson then utilises a chronological timeline task to consolidate the sequence of events alongside rigorous AQA source-based exam question practice, complete with scaffolded student support, model tracking, and a generic mark scheme.

An overarching enquiry question is introduced at the start of the lesson and systematically revisited to track student progress and evidence learning outcomes across the scheme of work.

**AQA GCE 2O A Level Democracy and Nazism: Germany 1918-45** I have produced this bundle of resources on Weimar Germany 1918-1928 to help A Level students access the course and help them to gain a deeper understanding of Germany’s past through political, social, economic and cultural perspectives. The enquiry question throughout these lessons will be to question how weak or strong Germany was politically, economically or socially. Students will learn how the impact of war had a profound effect on the establishment of the Weimar Republic and the significance and consequences of the Peace Settlement at Versailles. They will also learn about political instability, with extremism from the left and right, the problems of coalition government and the state of the Weimar Republic by 1923 with the invasion of the Ruhr and hyperinflation. This bundle has been designed to support the teaching of the AQA GCE A Level Democracy and Nazism: Germany 1918–45 specification. It focuses on the origins and early challenges of the Weimar Republic, helping students develop a secure understanding of the political, economic and social problems Germany faced between 1918 and 1923.
