Give old clothing a new purpose with this engaging and sustainable textiles project.

Students investigate textile fibres, test fabric properties, recover usable materials from unwanted clothing and manufacture their own recycled beanie hat. Along the way they develop practical sewing skills, explore sustainability and circular design, and learn how designers create products for real users.

Designed to be accessible for non-specialists, the project combines short theory bursts with extended practical activities, making it ideal for mixed-ability KS3 classes.
