Reception Catholic RE lesson plans for Branch 1: Creation and Covenant, with seven sequenced 30-minute lessons. Explore prayer, the Sign of the Cross, God’s creation, human dignity, stewardship and Baptism through play-based, classroom-ready activities for ages 4–5.

What is included

  • Seven 30-minute lessons, each with a clear, structured and age-appropriate learning sequence
  • Learning intentions, key questions, scaffolded activities and observation-based assessment for every lesson
  • Scripture-based learning using the Creation story in Genesis, with introduction to prayer, the Creed and Baptism
  • Suggested resources including Bibles, six-day picture cards, word cards, natural materials, family photos, large paper hearts, name cards, puppets, mirrors, skin-tone paints and collage materials, plants and seeds, recycling materials, baptismal symbols (water, white cloth, candle) and welcome cards
  • Practical, play-based activities including sequencing day cards, a small-world creation tray, a Creation Walk, wrapping gift pictures, decorating name hearts, caring role-play, self-portraits, a same-and-different sorting activity, planting and caring for seeds, tidying and recycling, and a Baptism role-play with a doll
  • Assessment and recording tasks in individual RE books including drawing, mark-making, early writing, labelling, role-play and simple recording; plus Welcome Cards and Baptism Symbol Matching
  • Downloadable lesson-plan document in PDF (.pdf) format

Use as a complete seven-week Branch 1 unit, or select individual lessons to support teaching on prayer, the Sign of the Cross, Creation, God’s love, human dignity, stewardship and Baptism.
