In this activity, students will learn about the three Punic Wars fought between Rome and Carthage from 264 to 146 BC, examining how Rome transformed from an Italian city-state into the dominant power of the western Mediterranean. Learners will investigate how Rome adapted its military tactics to overcome Carthaginian naval superiority, and how the eventual destruction of Carthage paved the way for Roman imperial expansion.
