This lesson is designed for the NEW AQA Physics GCSE, particularly the ‘Space’ SoW.

The lesson begins with a recap on some of the key words within the space topic, students will need to match the key word with the correct definition. The answers are revealed on the next slide.

The next part of the lesson focuses on red-shift, students will watch a video and answer a set of questions on the topic. They will then have the chance to self-assess their work using the answers provided on the next slide.

The following activity is an investigation, whereby students will use a spectrometer to observe the spectrum of light. The method is provided, and students need to record their observations they find by sketching a diagram of the spectrum they observe, noting down the order of colours and whether the spectrum is continuous.

Next, students will complete a progress check on red-shift, the mark scheme for this task is included so students can self-assess their work once complete.

In the second part of the lesson, students will be provided with information on Edward Hubble and his observations which led him to believe that the Universe is expanding. After being introduced to this scientist and his work, students will compete a comprehension task on the topic. Which they can then self-assess or peer-assess using the mark scheme provided.

Lastly, students will complete a set of practice questions on the lesson.

The plenary task requires students to spend a minute talking to the person next to them about what they have learned this lesson.
