Celebrate National Read A Book Day on 6 September with this engaging, ready-to-deliver whole-school assembly for primary schools.

This assembly celebrates the many ways children can enjoy reading, from stories and poetry to comics, non-fiction, audiobooks and reading about subjects they love. Pupils explore why reading matters and discover that every child can be a reader, regardless of how, what or how quickly they read.

Through the story of Sam, a pupil who initially feels that reading is “not really for me”, children see how finding books connected to their interests can build confidence, curiosity and enjoyment.

The presentation includes an interactive reading choices activity, partner discussion, audience questions and a practical challenge encouraging every child to take one small reading step, such as reading for ten minutes, trying a new genre or borrowing a book.
