Nathaniel Bacon (1647–1676) Colouring Poster

This black-and-white colouring poster introduces pupils to Nathaniel Bacon, the Virginia colonist who led Bacon’s Rebellion in 1676. Designed for upper Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3 and early secondary history, it combines an engaging illustration with clear, age-appropriate historical facts.

The poster highlights Bacon’s role in challenging Governor Berkeley, the burning of Jamestown, and the wider events of Bacon’s Rebellion. It also presents a balanced historical perspective by noting that Bacon’s forces attacked both hostile and some peaceful Native American communities, encouraging discussion about the complexity of historical events and differing viewpoints.

With bold outlines and large colouring areas, the poster is ideal for classroom displays, independent learning, homework, enrichment activities and history topic books. It can also be used as a starting point for lessons on colonial America, the origins of the American colonies, frontier conflict and historical interpretation.

Suitable for:

Topics covered:

Colonial Virginia
