• Name recognition
• Identifying and ordering letters in their names
• Name writing (Overwriting and free writing)
• Letter and number formation
• Fine motor and pen(cil) control skills
• Pre-writing patterns: Before writing letters, children practice continuous patterns (e.g., wavy lines, straight-lines, and “zig-zags”) to mimic the natural flow and strokes of cursive writing.

Ideal for EYFS “They will draw and make marks, perhaps beginning to write single letters, their name or whole words” (The Writing Framework, DFE, July 2025).

Additionally, a great extra provision tool for KS1 children who still need some support. “Pupils are expected to sit correctly holding a pencil comfortably, begin to form lower-case letters in the correct direction starting and finishing in the right place, form capital letters, and form digits 0 to 9” (National Curriculum Programmes of Study).
