A KS2 assembly and take-home challenge for My Money Week 2026 (15th –21st June), written for this year’s theme: ‘Money in My Community’.

This could also be delivered as a standalone class lesson, or used at any point in the year as an introduction to how money moves around a local economy.

The 20-minute assembly follows the ‘Travelling Fiver’: one £5 note as it journeys from Fatima’s birthday money to the baker’s till, into a Saturday helper’s wages, then on to the barber, the greengrocer and the bus — six jobs in a single week.

Along the way, pupils meet the ideas of wages, taxes and public services, and discover that their own spending choices decide where money’s journey begins.
A full presenter script sits in the notes of every slide, so any member of staff can deliver it unrehearsed. Interaction is built in throughout: hands-up votes, talk-to-your-partner questions, a 60-second partner recap and a whole-hall true-or-false quiz.

The accompanying Community Money Challenge sheet sends the learning home for the rest of the week, with Bronze, Silver and Gold levels designed to be achievable by Y3–Y6 pupils with light facilitation from a parent or carer. A chat on the walk to school is enough.

Supports KS2 PSHE financial capability objectives and links naturally to geography work on local area and settlement.
