This Mother’s Day Writing Craft is a meaningful, hands-on activity that encourages children to express appreciation for their mum or a loved one through writing and art. Designed as both a literacy task and a craft project, it makes a beautiful keepsake gift for Mother’s Day while supporting fine motor skills, creativity and early writing confidence.

The worksheet set begins with a clear instruction page (page 1) showing a colourful example of the finished craft: a potted flower with space for a child’s writing in the centre. The instructions guide pupils to write a note or letter on the final page, then colour, cut and glue the flower pieces around their writing onto construction paper. The visual on page 1 provides a helpful model, showcasing the bright flower, pot, leaves and writing section.

The final writing page includes the heading “TO MY BELOVED MOTHER” with space underneath for children to compose their message and sign it with “LOVE:”, giving the gift a personal, heartfelt touch. This supports sentence writing, letter formation and meaningful expression at an early level.

This craft is ideal for Nursery, Reception (EYFS) and Year 1 pupils, and also works well for SEND learners due to its structured layout and clear steps. It can be completed in literacy lessons, art sessions, carousel activities or special celebration days. The finished product makes a perfect take-home gift or classroom display for Mother’s Day.

Teachers appreciate this resource for being low-prep, purposeful and engaging. It combines writing practice with a fun, creative craft—ensuring children take pride in their final piece.
