Library Coloring Pages give you 100 printable sheets of shelves, stacks, and open books. Nearly every object on the page has been given a small face, which is what holds a young reader’s attention.

One hundred sheets is a full year of reading corner work. Most teachers print in batches rather than all at once.

Scenes You Will Color

An arched bookcase anchors the busiest sheet, its shelves packed with upright spines. Each spine carries two dot eyes and a smile, so a shelf of twelve books becomes twelve small characters. Below the case sits a stack of three closed volumes lying flat, and an open book propped beside it with its face spread across both pages.

Another page pairs a thick hardback with a steaming mug, handle turned out, a grin on the cup. A star and a flower look on from the margins, both with expressions of their own. One sheet frames the word LIBRARY inside a rounded sign board. Another floats a speech bubble holding the letters ABC.

Pencils, small flowers, hearts, and short dash marks fill the remaining space.

Educational Benefits
  • Print awareness grows when books are the subject rather than the container.
    • Reading motivation rises for children who color a library before they visit one.
    • Fine motor work happens along the narrow book spines, which are harder than they look.
    • Counting and grouping can be practiced on the shelf sheets by tallying the spines.
    • Positional language comes up on its own: above the shelf, beside the mug, under the stack.
Ways to Put Them to Work
  • Library orientation lessons at the start of the year
    • Reading corner and book nook wall displays
    • Rewards for finishing a reading log
    • Book week and world book day activities
    • A quiet task in the school library itself
    • Bookmarks made from the smaller drawings
    • Summer reading challenge packets
