This resource has been designed for KS1 pupils, English Language Learners (EAL), and children developing vocabulary, reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Through colourful illustrations and simple clues, children are introduced to a wide range of jobs /careers, helping them explore the question, “What do I want to be when I grow up?” while learning about the important roles people play in our communities.
The resource begins with a colour overview poster featuring 55 different occupations, providing a visual reference for discussion, vocabulary building, and speaking activities. Children can explore familiar and less familiar jobs, developing their understanding of the world of work.
Included are 6 colour worksheets, each duplicated in a black-and-white version for flexible classroom use. Children look carefully at the workers, read a simple clue, and write the correct occupation. For example, “This person is in charge of a school” leads children to identify and write “Headteacher.” The activities encourage pupils to use picture clues, read simple sentences, and apply their growing vocabulary to match jobs with descriptions.
The resource supports key literacy skills by developing reading comprehension, occupational vocabulary, spelling, and sentence understanding.
