Let’s Learn About the Letter Ss is an 11-page EYFS and KS1 phonics resource designed to support early letter recognition, initial sounds, handwriting, vocabulary building and simple word/sentence writing.
The worksheets are differentiated to suit a range of abilities and include black-and-white and colour versions for flexible teaching, intervention work, independent tasks or phonics displays.
Sheet 1 includes 12 black-and-white pictures of things beginning with s, such sun, sum, sock, ship and ship, for children to colour and write the words. Sheet 2 provides the same activity in colour.
Sheets 3 and 4 each include 6 pictures beginning with s for children to match to the appropriate words and then colour in. Children can write the words underneath.
Sheet 5 gives children space to write words under black-and-white pictures, with a word bank at the bottom to support spelling and confidence. Sheet 6 is the same activity in colour.
Sheet 7 includes dashed s words for children to trace, pictures to colour, and a short writing prompt where children write about one of the pictures. Sheet 8 is the same activity in colour.
Sheet 9 includes 2 sets of black-and-white flashcards for children to colour, cut out and match. Sheet 10 provides the same flashcards in colour, ideal for matching games, pairing activities, displays and phonics work.
Sheet 11 is an assessment sheet where children find the letter s, colour, trace, and sound out simple s words.
