L7 of the scheme of learning - Britain and the slave trade

This lesson focuses on what benefits Britain gained from the slave trade. The lesson begins with a source starter, leading to a video outlining the benefits and negatives of the slave trade for Britain and areas like Liverpool. Students then complete a carousel activity investigating the economic, industrial, political and social benefits. Students then apply their knowledge to an 8-mark ‘in what ways’ question (one paragraph), peer or self-assessing their responses. The lesson finishes with a judgement (written and corners) on in which area Britain benefitted the most.
