A ready-to-use KS3 Science practical worksheet on Energy in Foods for Year 7 (7I Energy, Pearson’s Exploring Science). Includes a full method, labelled diagrams, results table and scaffolded questions, plus an extension task — the same format as my full Year 7 KS3 Science Core Practical Booklet, for anyone who just needs this one practical.

What’s included: the aim and “what should I know” objectives, space to identify the variables, a calculation to work through and a safety section for students to complete.

The PowerPoint is fully editable, so you can reword the questions, change the quantities to match the equipment in your prep room, or drop your own diagrams in.

Apparatus used: measuring cylinder, boiling tubes, clamp stand, thermometer.

How I use it: students complete the sheet during the practical lesson and keep it as a revision record, so the write-up survives past the exercise book. Printing double-sided on A4 works well, or issue the whole booklet at the start of the year.

Teaching all three years? The complete KS3 Science Practical Skills bundle (/teaching-resource/resource-13516197) covers Years 7, 8 and 9 in this same format.

Year 7 KS3 Science Practicals - FULL SET of 11 resources

A ready-to-use KS3 Science core practical booklet covering 10 x Year 7 practicals, with methods, results tables and exam-style questions. These follow the content from Pearson’s Exploring Science scheme. The practicals have been sequenced for my specific setting, so may not match your teaching order for year 7. I’ve included the Exploring Science topic code so each practical can be matched to the textbook A core practical is a required hands-on investigation — the kind exam boards expect students to have carried out and be able to describe from memory by GCSE. This booklet gives Year 7 students a structured, printable record of every practical they complete this year, so nothing gets lost between exercise books and folders. Each of the 10 x practicals follows the same format: an aim and “what you should know” learning objective, a step-by-step method with labelled diagrams, a results table where relevant, scaffolded questions, and an extension or challenge task for higher attainers. Practicals include: * Microscopes and making onion slides (7A Cells) * Brownian motion (7G Particle Theory) * Comparing energy content of different foods (7I Energy) * Energy stores and transfers (7I Energy) * Acids & Alkalis – Universal indicator: testing pH of different substances (7F Acids & Alkalis) * Acids & Alkalis – Neutralisation (7F Acids & Alkalis) * Acids & Alkalis – making salts (7F Acids & Alkalis) * Investigating thermal insulators (8K Energy Transfers) * Evidence of chemical reactions (7H Atoms, Molecules and Compounds) * Hooke’s law – investigating springs (7K Forces) A bonus “Equipment and Their Uses” worksheet is included at the back to help familiarise students with the names and uses of the main apparatus they will come across in Science. It is also included here as a separate two-page printable, so you can issue it on its own in the first lesson of the year, or as revision before mocks, end-of-term assessments and exams without printing a whole booklet. How I use this resource: I issue the whole booklet at the start of the year and students complete the relevant pages during each practical lesson, then use it as a revision resource ahead of assessments. Because every practical includes full method instructions, it also works well for non-specialist or cover staff running the lesson. Last updated July 2026. Teaching Year 8 and 9 too?
