This lesson contains:

  • A starter task to study some images and pub sensory words to them to describe industrial Britain’s conditions among the poor. Once this is done, students match definitions on the board to the meanings and write them in their books for squalor, public health etc.
  • A discussion activity where the teacher shows 4 images to the students and they describe what they see. This gives a picture of industrial health problems.
  • A main activity for the students to use a series of information cards to create a mind map in their books of the major issues for public health. This is then extended by a judgement question about the worst aspect of public health.
  • A plenary to have students consider the solutions they could think of that might solve the issues.
