Help children find kinder ways to express their feelings and friendship boundaries with this simple, clearly worded social story for ages 3–5.

In many early years settings, children often say “You’re not my best friend!” when they really mean something else - “I want to play alone,” “I need space,” or “I’m playing with someone else right now.”

This story gently helps children understand what those feelings mean and gives them the language tools to say what they feel kindly and confidently.

Why it works:

  1. Builds emotional Oracy — helping children name and manage their feelings
  2. Promotes kindness, empathy and self-expression
  3. Reduces friendship fallouts and playground upsets
  4. Supports Birth to 5 Matters and EYFS Personal, Social & Emotional Development (PSED) outcomes
