A1.1 Water — Lesson Pack (2 Lessons)
A two-lesson sequence introducing IB Biology students to water as the medium for life, built around the A1.1 syllabus content. Lesson 1 covers the polarity of water molecules, hydrogen bonding, and how cohesion and adhesion arise from this bonding — including their role in xylem transport and surface tension. Lesson 2 extends this to water’s solvent properties (hydrophilic vs. hydrophobic substances), its role in metabolism and transport, and its physical properties (buoyancy, viscosity, thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity), with case studies comparing aquatic and terrestrial adaptations.
Each lesson includes a Do Now starter, clear Meeting/Exceeding success criteria, guided progress checks throughout, and an exit ticket. A two-page consolidation worksheet is included for independent practice or homework, with exam-style questions and a self-check.
