This IB Maths AA SL Topic 2.11 – Transformations of Graphs resource introduces students to the key transformations of functions and develops confidence in describing, sketching, and interpreting transformed graphs. It begins with the central idea that transformations affect coordinates, then guides students through vertical and horizontal translations, reflections in the x- and y-axes, and vertical and horizontal stretches. Students learn how changes inside and outside the function notation affect the graph differently, including forms such as (f(x)+b), (f(x-a)), (-f(x)), (f(-x)), and (pf(x)).

The lesson also develops fluency in applying multiple transformations in sequence. Students practise sketching transformed graphs, describing transformations clearly, and tracking how key points move under composite transformations. With clear explanations, worked examples, coordinate-mapping practice, graph-sketching tasks, exam tips, and fully worked solutions, this resource helps SL students build a strong understanding of graph transformations in line with IB Mathematics AA expectations.
