This IB Maths AA SL Topic 4.2 – Presentation of Data resource develops students’ ability to organise, display, and interpret statistical information. It begins by defining frequency and cumulative frequency and showing how data can be presented in frequency distribution tables. Students learn how cumulative totals are calculated and used to answer questions about the number of observations below a given value.

The lesson then introduces histograms, cumulative frequency graphs, and box-and-whisker plots. Students practise using these representations to identify the median, quartiles, percentiles, range, and interquartile range, where IQR = Q3 - Q1. The resource also explores how the relative lengths of the box and whiskers can be used to describe the symmetry or skew of a dataset. With clear definitions, worked examples, labelled statistical diagrams, interpretation tasks, cumulative frequency practice, and fully worked solutions, this resource helps SL students build strong data-presentation and analysis skills in line with IB Mathematics AA expectations.
