This IB Maths AA AHL Topic 3.16 – The Vector Product resource develops students’ understanding of the vector product, also known as the cross product, and its geometric applications. It begins by defining v × w as a vector perpendicular to both v and w, with direction determined by the right-hand rule. Students also learn that the magnitude |v × w| represents the area of the parallelogram formed by the two vectors.

The lesson explores key properties of the vector product, including anti-commutativity, multiplication by a scalar, and the fact that v × v = 0. Students connect a zero vector product to parallel vectors and use the cross product to find normal vectors perpendicular to two given vectors.
