Want to introduce and develop a deep understanding of number and addition? This is 1 long or 2 shorter lessons with supporting resources to accompany the Maths picture book ‘How Many Legs?’ by Kes Gray & Jim Field.

A fun, practical fusion of reading comprehension, Maths and independent investigation, the children will be super engaged with the fun story and the hands-on, practical related investigation. A fun way to introduce the concept; this lesson encourages the children to practise adding three numbers together using a 10/20 frame, and invites them to notice that animals normally have an even number of legs to introduce odd and even numbers. There is also a support resource available for those who may need to take this in smaller steps and work as a small group.
