Want to introduce and develop a deep understanding of number and addition? This is 1 long or 2 shorter lessons with supporting resources to accompany the Maths picture book ‘How Many Legs?’ by Kes Gray & Jim Field. The lesson is designed with early learning / Pre-Kindergarten in mind - so beneath the lesson input on the plan you will find 4x activity task ideas to set up for guided play and exploration.

A fun, practical fusion of reading comprehension, Maths and independent investigation, the children will be super engaged with the fun story and the hands-on, practical related investigations. A fun way to introduce the concept; this lesson encourages the children to practise adding small numbers within 10 using a 10 frame, and invites them to notice that animals normally have an even number of legs to introduce odd and even numbers. There is also extension available to work with numbers within 20 and/or to add 3 digits together. This lesson includes supporting resources found in most early learning classrooms (see below for details).
