AQA A Level 1C The Tudors: England 1485-1603

This engaging introductory lesson launches the A Level course by introducing students to Henry VII and the world of the early Tudors.

Students are provided with a clear and structured overview of the course content, alongside a breakdown of exam requirements to build confidence and exam awareness from the outset.

Prior knowledge of the Tudors is revisited and strengthened before students are guided into an enquiry-based exploration of Henry VII’s accession in 1485. Learners are challenged to consider his key priorities as a new monarch and begin to evaluate the security and legitimacy of his claim to the throne.

To support wider contextual understanding, students are introduced to a Tudor timeline, helping them to visualise continuity and change across the period and develop an early sense of historical structure and causation.

The lesson also establishes a foundation in Tudor society, exploring key features such as social hierarchy, agriculture, industry, and the role of the Church. This provides essential background knowledge that underpins the wider course.

A central enquiry question runs throughout the lesson, encouraging sustained analytical thinking and allowing students to track and reflect on their progress over time.

The lesson includes:
Fully resourced activities
Ready to go PowerPoint
Differentiated tasks
Scaffolding and challenging tasks
Independent learning
