Attached are 3 starter tasks which could be useful if you are exploring the Gothic genre particuarly with a Y7/8/9 class.

They are basically word banks where all the adjectives, verbs and adverbs are all mixed up and students are asked to differentiate which is which. Obviously some of the words could be problematic as it depends which context they are used but this is a good opportunity to point this out when you go through it. I have found this useful to pick out words which are complex to define as a class and have asked students to annotate their meaning around them.

There is a handout and a Powerpoint for each starter task which reveals the answers using a colour code on the board. There is a challenge task for more able students.

Hopefully when the Powerpoint is downloaded, the text doesn’t shift but it may do - will need adjusting if so, apologies.
