This worksheet challenges students to identify as many language techniques as possible within a short descriptive extract.

The extract is deliberately packed with language features, encouraging students to spot techniques such as simile, metaphor, personification, repetition, rhetorical questions, alliteration, onomatopoeia and rule of three.

The task is naturally differentiated, allowing students to identify a few techniques or challenge themselves to find many more.

The worksheet includes:
• A descriptive extract containing 15+ language techniques
• A Bronze, Silver, Gold challenge encouraging students to find increasing numbers of techniques
• Space for students to record their answers
• An analytical challenge question
• A Grade 9 example response showing how a writer creates atmosphere

This resource works well as:
• A starter activity
• GCSE language techniques revision
• Preparation for AQA GCSE English Language Paper 1 Question 2
• A quick retrieval or exam practice task

Designed to help students become more confident in recognising how writers use language to create atmosphere and meaning.
