This resource has been designed for students working towards Entry Level 1 Functional Skills English qualifications.

It contains ten practice papers (and marking schemes) that follow the same format as that used by Pearson Edexcel. However, the practice papers are also useful resources for students working towards NCFE, City and Guilds and Open Awards Entry Level 1 English Functional skills qualifications.

Each paper contains five questions on the following targets:

Punctuate simple sentences with a capital letter and a full stop
Use a capital letter for the personal pronoun ‘I’ and the first letter of proper nouns
Use lower-case letters when there is no reason to use capital letters
Write the letters of the alphabet in sequence and in both upper and lower case
Spell correctly words designated for Entry Level 1
Communicate information in words, phrases and simple sentences

A results template is also included to record an individuals results in all ten papers.

The practice papers can be used for many purposes:

to assess a student’s current level
to assess a student’s progress
to prepare students for their final test
