A full year of functional maths for learners working well below age-related expectations.

271 pages. 11 units. Over 270 worksheets. Forty weeks of structured teaching, from distinguishing two identical socks through to recognizing coins and notes.

Designed for learners with SEND working at pre-Key Stage or Engagement Model levels - pupils who are not yet counting, not yet mark-making reliably, and who need errorless, heavily prompted teaching to access a task at all.

THE 11 UNITS

  1. Same and Different
  2. Sorting My Things
  3. Shapes and Colors Around Me
  4. Big and Small
  5. More and Less
  6. Numbers I Can See
  7. Counting Till 5
  8. Show Me With Fingers
  9. Coins and Notes
  10. Full and Empty
  11. Year End Review

EACH UNIT RUNS FOUR WEEKS
Week 1 - Errorless start. Baseline assessment, key word card, match and point.
Week 2 - Guided practice. Two or three choices, prompts systematically faded.
Week 3 - Real objects. The same skill applied to everyday classroom and household items.
Week 4 - Generalization and assessment. Fluency, a motivating task, an out-of-classroom activity, and a post-assessment.

WHAT MAKES IT USABLE ON A MONDAY MORNING
Baseline and post-assessment in every unit - evidence for EHCP outcomes and annual reviews
Level Up and Level Down on every task, so a single unit differentiates across a mixed class without extra planning
Errorless design with prompts built into the page, not added by the adult
Deliverable by a TA or LSA with no additional training
Consistent visual layout throughout, reducing cognitive load and prompt dependency
Black and white throughout, using shape cues rather than color cues - photocopier friendly and accessible to learners with color vision differences

SESSION STRUCTURE
Fifteen to twenty minutes per session, one or two worksheets at a time, four or five sessions per week. Guidance on sensory readiness and in-the-moment task adjustment is included at the front.

PLEASE NOTE
Unit 9 covers money. A sterling version of Unit 9 is included alongside the original, so you can print whichever suits your learners.

Written by a specialist teacher with over thirty years in special education.
