THIS FREE 5-WEEK PSHE UNIT teaches children about communities, safety and rules and emergency situations, helping them understand the important role they play in the world around them. Designed for Years 1–2, it explores community groups, people who help us, stranger danger, safety rules and how to respond in emergencies through practical activities, discussion and a child-friendly, interactive approach.

Pupils learn about the different communities they belong to, the roles people play in keeping communities safe, and why rules are important. Children also explore personal safety, how to recognise unsafe situations, and what to do if they need help, including understanding what an emergency is.

THIS PSHE UNIT INCLUDES:

  • 6 fully planned lessons with PowerPoint presentations
  • Lesson activities
  • PRE/POST Assessment
  • Curriculum objectives included on the final slide of each lesson

LESSON FOCUS:

  1. Understanding communities and where we belong
  2. Roles and responsibilities within the community
  3. Why rules and safety guidelines are important
  4. Stranger awareness and personal safety
  5. What an emergency is and what to do in an emergency

Presentations should be viewed in slideshow mode to access animations and embedded links.

This unit forms part of a wider full-year PSHE curriculum for Years 1 and 2. Visit my TES shop to explore the complete curriculum and additional PSHE resources.
